NPA Coatings, part of the worldwide Nippon Paint family, a manufacturer of both powder and liquid based paint is currently seeking a Chemist to join our Liquid Department supporting the Cleveland production operations. The Chemist position is responsible for testing, formulating, analyzing and experimenting with raw and in process material. The Chemist interacts with others within the department to support existing products while assisting in the development of future OEM and/or general industrial applications.
Essential Functions:
-Utilizes standard laboratory equipment to plan, carry out and analyze experiments as assigned. Some supervision may be required.
-Participates in weekly project review with project team
-Assists project leader in the development of products that meet customer design criteria
-Assists project leader to assure raw material specifications, storage conditions and shelf life are developed. May assist with transfer to production/ QC
-Assists in the preparation for internal and customer quality audits
-Prepares technical reports, assess and consults results with Group Leader
-Meets ISO/QS/Customer quality requirements and follows company standard operating procedures in all activities performed
-Utilizes prudent laboratory practices and appropriate safety methods as required
-May assist in annual technical training programs
-Assists with in-house and/or customer validation trials
-Recommends external training and other career development opportunities to supervisor
-Provides on-the-job training for subordinates
-Consults with supervisor to develop an annual technical and supervisory skills improvement plan.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field
Liquid paint experience preferred
2-5 years of laboratory experience preferred
Proven knowledge of QS/ISO requirements
Hands-on technical experience.
Ability to formulate, color match, design, analyze data and convey results
Knowledge of auto manufacturer's test specifications and quality procedures
Good communication, written and organizing skills.
Must be able to multi-task.
Knowledge in analytical techniques and instrumentation
