NPA Coatings, part of the worldwide Nippon Paint family, a manufacturer of both powder and liquid coatings is currently seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our EHS department. The Health and Safety Specialist position is responsible for planning and coordinating assigned portions of Health, Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs requiring application of scientific principles and technology to analyze and control conditions contributing to occupational hazards and diseases.

Essential Functions:

-Develops and implements programs and policies for monitoring and preventing Health, Safety and Environmental hazards at the facility.
-Surveys - compiles and analyzes data relating to occupational and environmental health issues such as chemical exposure, radiation, smoke, fumes, noise, temperatures, dusts, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, lighting, and ergonomics which are known or suspected of being real or potential detriments to health.
-Performs field and health and safety measurements and health, safety and environmental evaluations.
-Maintains monitoring instrumentation and equipment.
-Implements or recommends control measures for exposure to hazardous materials or conditions.
-Directs workers engaged in field and laboratory verification of compliance with health regulations.
-Provides technical guidance to management and employees, regarding health related problems and correct use of protective clothing, accessories, or equipment.
-Monitors the company's health programs in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
-Develops and implements a program and system to track and evaluate worker injuries.
-Maintains working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations.
-Issues safe work permits for potentially hazardous work.
-Mentors several emergency response teams.
-Develops and facilitates training for workers on issues related to health and safety.
-Develops and delivers new employee training.
-Manages contractor safety program.

Education/Experience

Associates or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field
2-4 years of related experience and/or training
CSP, CIH or other Safety, Health or Environmental Certification preferred
Must have strong ability to train any employee regardless of their position
Comfortable speaking in front of large groups
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required
Willing to advance technically and professionally by attendance at lectures, seminars and short courses
Good communication, written and organizing skills
Must be able to multi-task
